چکیده

Using the DIANOGA hydrodynamical zoom-in simulation set of galaxy clusters, we analyze dynamics traced by stars belonging to Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCGs) and their surrounding diffuse component, forming intracluster light (ICL), compare it dark matter galaxies identified in simulations. We compute scaling relations between BCG cluster velocity dispersions corresponding masses (i.e. $M_\mathrm{BCG}^{\star}$- $\sigma_\mathrm{BCG}^{\star}$, $M_{200}$- $\sigma_{200}$, $M_{200}$, $\sigma_\mathrm{BCG}^{\star}$- $\sigma_{200}$), find general a good agreement with observational results. Our simulations also predict $\sigma_{200}$ relation not change significantly up redshift $z=1$, line relatively slow accretion stellar mass at late times. main features dispersion profiles, as stars, matter, galaxies. As result, discuss that observed profiles inner regions are excellent report slopes profile from agree what is measured observations, confirming existence robust correlation slope (thus, mass) when former computed within $0.1 R_{500}$. results demonstrate can correctly describe BCGs envelope, determined past star-formation assembly histories most massive Universe.

The Small-scale Velocity Dispersion of Galaxies: a Comparison of Cosmological Simulations

The velocity dispersion of galaxies on small scales (r D 1 h~1 Mpc), can be estimated from the p 12 (r), anisotropy of the galaxy-galaxy correlation function in redshift space (Davis & Peebles). We apply this technique to ““mock catalogs ÏÏ extracted from N-body simulations of several di†erent variants of cold dark matterÈdominated cosmological models, including models with cold] hot dark matte...

Radial kinematics of brightest cluster galaxies

This is the first of a series of papers devoted to the investigation of a large sample of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs), their kinematic and stellar population properties, and the relationships between those and the properties of the cluster. We have obtained high signal-to-noise ratio, long-slit spectra of these galaxies with Gemini and WHT with the primary purpose of investigating their s...

The Origin of the Brightest Cluster Galaxies

Most clusters and groups of galaxies contain a giant elliptical galaxy in their centres which far outshines and outweighs normal ellipticals. The origin of these brightest cluster galaxies is intimately related to the collapse and formation of the cluster. Using a large cosmological N-body simulation of cluster collapse, we show how hierarchical merging naturally produces a giant, central ellip...

The stellar content of brightest cluster galaxies

We present near-infrared K-band spectroscopy of 21 elliptical or cD Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCGs), for which we have measured the strength of the 2.293 µm CO stellar absorption feature. We find that the strength of this feature is remarkably uniform among these galaxies, with a smaller scatter in equivalent width than for the normal elliptical population in the field or clusters. The scatte...

Ionized nebulae surrounding brightest cluster galaxies

We present integral field spectroscopic observations of six emission-line nebulae that surround the central galaxy of cool core clusters. Qualitatively similar nebulae are observed in cool core clusters even when the dynamics and possibly formation and excitation source are different. Evidence for a nearby secondary galaxy disturbing a nebula, as well as AGN and starburst driven outflows are pr...
